Abstract

The objectives of this research are: (1) to evaluate knowledge of Kaset Tambon, Changwat Phitsanulok on prevention and elimination of brown plant hoppers (BPHS); (2) to study the association among social variables and level of Knowledge; and (3) to study the appropriate methods of knowledge transfer. Population are seventy-seven or 81.9 percent of Kaset Tambon. Statistics include percentage, mean, and multiple regression analysis for testing hypotheses. Results illustrate that 51.4 percent of Kaset Tambon gain 75 percent of scores on BPH prevention and elimination. Results of Knowledge evaluation indicate that Kaset Tambon should acquire more knowledge and skills on the topics of the utilization of chemical substances to eliminate BPHs, principles and methods to grow BPH-resistance rice varieties, methods to prevent BPHs, survey BPHs in the rive fields, conservation of natural enemies of BPHs, and environmental conservation concerns towards prevention of BPHs. Findings on the hypotheses testing among the association of social variables and level of knowledge show that Kaset Tambon with high scores are positively associated with their level of education. The common variances in scores on BPH prevention and elimination can be accounted for by knowing the education level of Kaset Tambon 7.94 percent. Results of the knowledge transfer methods needed by more than 90 percent of Kaset Tambon are: handbooks, field trips, lecture, movies, leaflets, slides, exhibition, posters, group discussion, short course training, video tapes, demonstration plots. face-to-face demonstration, and newspapers. Results of this research will be beneficial to the Provincial Agricultural Extension Office, Phitsanulok and The 3rd Plant Protection Unit in transferring knowledge by taking Kaset Tambon’s level of education and their preferred methods into account.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are : (1) to identify problems of extension communication in media preparation, production, and distribution; (2) to test hypotheses between mean differences in problems expressed by the divisional an regional personnel, Dept of Agricultural Extension. Samples are 125 personnel. There are 77 personnel from the divisional level and 48 personnel from the regional level or 61.60 and 38.40 percent respectively. Statistics include descriptive statistics and analytical statistics. Findings reveal that personnel at both levels express problems facing almost all the same. Those critical problems are : more job description to perform aside from media work, lack of capable personnel to deal with media work, lack of equipment, equipment inefficiency, limit of equipment to distribute media, and lack of data to produce media. Results from hypotheses testing illustrate the statistical differences at the .05 level between problem means of personnel at the division and region in equipment inefficiency. Regional personnel express problems in this topic higher than the divisional personnel. Recommendations include the ideas of having an agency solely responsible for some media work to ease the problems of personnel having more job functions to perform. Also, there should be focused on knowledge, experiences, skills, and training in media work for increasing capable personnel. Then, the provision of necessary equipment to be utilized within and among agencies should be considered.

Abstract

The objectives of the research were 1) to analyze social and economic factors affecting soybean production and 2) to study problems and suggestions for soybean production. The sample was derived from 378 farmers in Amphoe Watbode, Prompiram, and Bangrakam, Phitsanulok province, and consisted of farmers who grew soybean after rice paddy in 1996. Data were collected by the use of questionnaires. Statistical procedures included percentage, arithmatic mean, and multiple regression analysis by forward method. The results revealed that factors affecting soybean production of farmers were: increasing production cost, expanding sizes of soybean cropping areas, increasing production incomes, and not being group membership in dealing with soybean. These four variables were accounted for 48.0 percent of soybean production increase. Problems facing farmers in producing soybean were: dispersion of insect pests, lack of farm machinery and labors, lack of capitals, unstable production prices, and lack of appropriate knowledge. Suggestions for development of soybean production based on needs of the farmers were: to seek gorvenmental assistance to advocate group activities, to decrease production cost, to supply soybean seeds, to supply irregation, to guarantee prices, to promote soybean processing, to provide adequate knowledge, and to support farm machinery, pesticides, fertilizers and plant hormone.
